Scope and Content Drawing of a medieval grave-slab from Wauchope old parish church, Dumfries and Galloway Part of the medieval church of Wauchope still stands within the grounds of the Old Parish Church. Several pieces of medieval sculpture including grave-slabs and stone mouldings have been recovered from the graveyard. The sword incised into this slab indicates that the stone originally covered the grave of a high-status man. The earliest record of a church at Wauchope is 1220, when the payment of the vicar's annual stipend was agreed at five marks. The church was demolished following its absorption into the newly created parish of Langholm in 1703. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
