DP 467900

Description Richardson family

Date c. 0/1900 to 0/1900

Collection Records of the Scottish Cultural Resources Access Network (SCRAN), Edinburgh, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 467900

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content The record of the Richardson family in photographs shows that walks in the nearby countryside were part of their routine during the summer and (probably) on Sundays. Dressed in their best walking out clothes a group of young people march down a country lane. In the background is a typical East Lothian farm steading, the original octagonal horse mill augmented by a large chimney (for a stationary steam engine). This photograph is part of a family collection made from the 1880s-1900s. Dr Richardson settled at North Berwick where he established a medical practice. He photographed family members, trips and events and, when his son founded North Berwick Museum, the collection was deposited there. It now provides glimpses of upper middle class life of the period.
