Scope and Content These houses were built on Dunbar's East Links for the Civil Service Pension Fund as part of a retirement and nursing home for members. The buildings were constructed on the site of Dunbar's former cottage hospital, York House. Elements of the demolished structure were incorporated in the new buildings. This is a cluster of apartments built in two blocks on a low lying site close to the sea. The buildings have multi-level access (left) and are harled with pitched, pantilled roofs. The building to the rear incorporates a classical stone doorway. The 20th century's ageing population gave rise to purpose built accommodation offering varying degrees of care. This facility could offer nursing care as well as sheltered housing according to the needs of its residents.
