Scope and Content This housing development in Dunbar by a private contractor was prompted by the building of a supermarket adjacent to the site. The style of the development reflects the traditional architecture of the town, part of which is glimpsed through the pend. This is a terrace of houses under construction. Although being built as a unified whole, the façade of the development has been broken up by using vari-coloured renders, the insertion of a pend and terminating with a gable. In the 20th century Dunbar expanded considerably beyond its earlier confines. Houses were built by both the local authority and private contractors, the latter predominating towards the end of the period. Part of the growth came from an increasing population, many of whom were prepared to commute to work.
