Scope and Content This plan shows the west elevation and detail of rafter and roof of the drying sheds produced for Messrs. J. Pullar & Sons, Perth, by J. Murray Robertson, Architect, Dundee, on 28 April 1893. The drying sheds were to be located at the North Port. The scale of the plan is one eighth of an inch to one foot. Perth was famous for its linen industry in the nineteenth century and John Pullar established a dye works, which flourished mainly due to the arrival of the railways. By 1900 Pullar's North British Dye Works in Mill Street, Perth, was the city's largest enterprise, employing over 2,600 people. This plan is illustrative of the expansion of Pullar's dye works at the time, however, the First World War saw a collapse in trade, and the company was later taken over by Eastman & Sons, though it continued to trade under the Pullar name. SCRAN 'when' data: 28 April 1893 image created 1900 context.
