Scope and Content This perspective drawing shows Mackison's plan for the proposed cattle market and abattoir at Carolina Port, Dundee, in 1872. Named for the North American colony, Carolina Port was later infilled and a coal fired electricity generating station was built on the new shoreline by Dundee Corporation c1910. Carolina Port was also the cause of a legal battle between Provost William Lindsay and the Dundee and Arbroath Railway, over permission to build a railway line through Lindsay's pier. After taking the case to the House of Lords Lindsay lost and was ruined. He died a broken man in 1849. SCRAN 'when' data: 1872 original image created c.1910 context 1849 context.
