Scope and Content Dundee's first public park was completed in 1863, the result of a donation of £50,000 from Sir David Baxter and his two sisters. The grounds and pathways were planned by Sir Joseph Paxton and were to be kept in perpetual order by an endowment from the benefactors. Baxter Park is about 36 acres in extent with a pavilion in the centre in which a marble statue of Sir David Baxter, sculpted by Sir John Steell in 1863, was erected by public subscription. The statue is now located in the Albert Institute, Dundee. This photograph, showing the Pavilion, Baxter Park, Dundee, was published in 'Dundee From the Tram Cars' by Alan Reid, 1908.
