Scope and Content The Douglasfield Works was one of the last jute works to be built in Dundee. It was constructed between 1955 and 1957 for Jute Industries. The main parts of the works was a steel framed, single storey building with adjoining concrete warehouses. This is one of a series of photographs taken to chronicle the construction of Douglasfield Works. It shows the roof as it appeared in 1956. The chimney can also be seen. The houses in the background are part of the the Douglas and Angus estate, one of a number of council housing schemes built on the outskirts of Dundee in the post-war era.
