Scope and Content The west range of the Aberdeen Carmelite friary was a long building running from the south side of the Carmelite church. It was divided into four rooms, one of which may have been a kitchen because it had a drain in one wall, and a fireplace in a corner. These stone walls were solidly constructed with large foundations to take the weight of at least a two-storey building. A coin found in one of the wall foundations, dates the construction of this stone building to the 15th century. The wall in the centre is an internal one, separating two rooms inside the building. These internal walls were less substantial than the outside walls, as they had to bear little weight. SCRAN 'when' data: 1273 foundation of Aberdeen Carmelite friary 1273 - 17th century burials at the friary 1560 the Reformation: friary abandoned 1336 friary damaged by the Fire of Aberdeen.
