Scope and Content These skulls were excavated from inside the church of the Aberdeen Carmelite friary. The skull on the left belonged to a male and the one on the right to a female. The male skull has large brow ridges above the eyes, a large mastoid process behind the ear and a square jaw. The female has no brow ridges, a small mastoid process and a rounded jaw. Skulls are less accurate for determining the sex of an individual than the pelvis. The female pelvis has a wide sciatic notch to allow a baby's head to pass through.
