Scope and Content This stone feature beside the medieval church of the Aberdeen Carmelite friary, was constructed of rough granite boulders bonded with pink clay. On further excavation the walls of this feature continued beyond the bottom of the picture. This feature was obviously constructed for some particular purpose. Fuel storage is a possibility, but that seems a little unlikely so close to the church. Sometimes archaeologists find features such as this one which are difficult to explain. That provides a chance for some creative thinking! SCRAN 'when' data: 1273 foundation of Aberdeen Carmelite friary 1273 - 17th century burials at the friary 1560 the Reformation: friary abandoned 1336 friary damaged by the Fire of Aberdeen.
