Scope and Content This was one of the latest burials which took place within the church of the Aberdeen Carmelite friary. During grave digging in the medieval period, bones from previous burials were found and these can be seen laid in a neat pile at the bottom. There appear to have been very few permanent grave markers at this site. One upright stone was the only possible evidence. As there were few grave markers, it was inevitable that when a grave was being dug, bones from previous burials would be found. These were either laid to the side (as in this case) or were reburied within the current grave cut. During the building of a warehouse in the 19th century, bones were found and were carefully reburied within the foundation trenches of the building. SCRAN 'when' data: 1273 foundation of Aberdeen Carmelite friary 1273 - 17th century burials at the friary 1560 the Reformation: friary abandoned 1336 friary damaged by the Fire of Aberdeen.
