Scope and Content This long thin trench was excavated before a sewer pipe was laid. Because the area had not been disturbed in the past, it was decided to hand dig this trench, only removing a warehouse floor and rubble with a machine. Portions of about 25 individuals were carefully excavated from this trench. Many of them had been buried in coffins and shrouds. There was a mix of adults (male and female) and children. The trench was narrow and made excavation difficult. Most of the skeletons were incomplete either because they had been disturbed by later walls, or because the rest of the skeleton had to remain beyond the trench edge. SCRAN 'when' data: 1273 foundation of Aberdeen Carmelite friary 1273 - 17th century burials at the friary 1560 the Reformation: friary abandoned 1336 friary damaged by the Fire of Aberdeen.
