Scope and Content This well-constructed wall was part of the southern corner of the west range of the Carmelite friary, the Green, Aberdeen. The stone is granite and the top, faced, course would have been at ground level following construction. The stones underneath the faced course are the foundation stones for the wall. They are rough granite boulders or field stones laid in a foundation trench. When the building was demolished these stones remained intact under the ground. The west range was built in the 14th or 15th century according to a small copper alloy coin found in one wall foundation trench. The foundations were substantial enough to support at least a two-storey building. SCRAN 'when' data: 1273 foundation of Aberdeen Carmelite friary 1273 - 17th century burials at the friary 1560 the Reformation: friary abandoned 1336 friary damaged by the Fire of Aberdeen.
