Scope and Content Redrawn for publication from DC 32398. Plan showing Cornal Tower, Dumfries and Galloway The remains of the tower lie upon a ridge of wooded ground on the eastern bank of the Cornal Burn, about 750m north-east of Craigbeck Cottage. No more than a fragment of masonry remains of this tower-house. To the north-west, at right angles to the tower, are footings of a stone structure, perhaps a domestic range for the tower. A garden enclosure has been created on the slope to the south-west. 'Polcornare', or Cornal, is on record in 1512 as part of the estate of Logan. In the 15th century Cornal Tower was gifted to the Carruthers of Mousewald, later passing to the Johnstones and then the Douglases. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
