There is dense woodland on the opposite shore, with clouds forming above the background hills. The terrace has a battlemented wall on the loch side. The gardens are of a naturalistic style with trees and shrubs scattered on the slopes. Loch Awe is 23 miles long, with impressive scenery along the shores, and therefore a popular holiday place. The area was home to the clans Campbell, MacArthur, MacNaughtons and MacDonalds.
