Scope and Content An aerial view of a palatial Scottish baronial mansion house with formal gardens. There are extensive outbuildings in the wooded grounds. Balmoral is a private holiday home of the royal family, sited on the river Dee. The house stands on the site of a 16th century tower house bought by Prince Albert in the mid 19th century. The gardens were originally laid out by Queen Mary.
