Scope and Content A motor car and a bus passing a large seafront hotel, with a colosseum on the summit of the background hill overlooking the resort town and bay. Several holidaymakers are seen strolling along the seafront. There is an oval floral traffic island in the road. Other businesses in the street include the Kings Hotel and Lindsay's shop. Oban grew from a hamlet to a popular resort town in the 19th century. At one time bands played on the esplanade and steamers took passengers on trips around the Western Isles. The colosseum is McCaig's Tower, a folly erected by a local banker in 1897.
