Scope and Content A substantial building with a central clock tower and a veranda on the frontage, sited in large grounds. A saltire flies from the flagpole. 'Taking the waters' (usually from natural springs) has long been considered beneficial. Hydropathic Establishments, or 'Hydros', offered popular, if somewhat austere, holidays for whole families. The Hydropathic Establishment at Dunblane was one of several built in the 19th century offering pseudoscientific water cures for various ailments or as a general restorative.
