Scope and Content A stone built house with bottle glass windows and a projecting stair tower, with a smaller cottage or shop adjacent. A head is carved on the gable end and there is a motto over the house door; the date 1393 appears on a plaque on the stair tower. Once the old Glovers' Hall, the house gained fame as the residence of Catherine Glover in Sir Walter Scott's "The Fair Maid of Perth", published in 1828. The niche at the corner originally held a statue of the patron saint of glovers, St Bartholomew.
