Scope and Content A view from the croquet lawn of a stuccoed house with a castellated roof, tower and turrets, porte-cochere and bay windows. The house stands on a grassed terrace in a wooded park. Trochraigue House is a mansion. In the late 19th century it was occupied by a family named Kerr. Girvan was originally called Invergirvan and was primarily a weaving village until the building of a steamer pier. Coal, grain and limestone were exported by steam boat to Glasgow, and Girvan became a popular holiday resort in the 19th century.
