Scope and Content A waterfall tumbling over the rocks in a sun dappled wooded glen, with stone walls visible through the trees on the right bank. The temple near which this view is taken dates from 1789. It was designed by Alexander Nasmyth in the style of the Roman Temple of Vesta at Tivoli at the request of Lord Gardenstone, a noted eccentric. The marble and mosaic pumproom was refurbished in 1888 by the publisher, William Nelson, as was the statue which represents Hygieia, the goddess of health.
