Scope and Content A two storey white rendered building with square lighthouse tower at the far end, beyond pasture with resting sheep. Large fuel tanks are set round the single storey outbuilding, with another tank on its roof. Stacks of boxes are leaning up against the wall of the main building. A low hilly island (South Ronaldsay) can be seen in the distance across the sea passage. The lighthouse has battlemented walls round the light at the top. The lighthouse stands on top of cliffs 210ft high and is visible for 20 miles. It was built by a member of the Stevenson family of lighthouse builders. A Triangulation Station stands before the buildings on the right.
