Scope and Content Railway viaduct crossing river with densely wooded banks and group of distillery buildings below embankment. Single track railway curving along valley side with fields, houses and ruined castle on rise. Hills with woods in distance. The railway and viaduct was built by the Keith and Dufftown Railway in 1862 and operated by the Great Northern of Scotland Railway Company afterwards. Balvenie Castle was first built in the 13th century and was then extensively remodelled in the late 16th century by John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl.
