Scope and Content A long stone quay with fishing boats tied up and a tanker lorry on top of the quay. Buildings and houses line the road behind the quay. A church spire and woods form the skyline in the background. The fishing vessels are moored in rows two or three deep against the wharf and have stepped masts and furled sails with fishing equipment on the decks. The boats have BK [Berwick] registrations and there are swans in the water. Today Eyemouth is the only major port in Berwickshire. On 14 October 1881 half the fleet was lost in a hurricane which suddenly blew up when they were out at sea. 129 fishermen died (a third of the men) and they are commemorated in the town park.
