Scope and Content A plain fronted stone built two-storey house with steps to the pavement and a notice on the wall; a gasometer looms in the background. The poet Robert Burns settled in Dumfries when he became a full time exciseman in 1791 and remained there until his death in 1796. Burns and his family occupied three rooms in a tenement on Bank Street (the Wee Vennel) before moving to this house, Millbrae or Milbrae Hole, off St Michael's Street. The family worshipped and are buried in St Michael's Church.
