Scope and Content A large stone built house with plants clambering up trellis on the walls; bay windows and windows in the gables, and an entrance porch. There are garden chairs and a sundial or birdbath on the lawn, and more seats beside the porch. Once known as St John's Clachan, Dalry is still known as St John's Town of Dalry as the church is dedicated to St John the Baptist, patron saint of the Knights Templar, who were local landowners. The Covenanters' Rising (1666) began in Dalry.
