Description Plockton and Loch Carron

Date 29/4/1935 to 29/4/1935

Collection Records of the Scottish Cultural Resources Access Network (SCRAN), Edinburgh, Scotland

Catalogue Number DP 448627

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content A single track railway line on a coastal slope above a sea inlet, with a coastal village across the loch and mountains in the distance. There are small islets in the loch, with a castle at centre right. Blasting the rock to lay the line around Loch Carron was something of an engineering feat at the time the track was built in 1897. Prior to this the line terminated at Stromeferry. Castle Strome was a stronghold of the MacDonalds.
