Scope and Content A broad town street with a terraced semicircular square on the right and lined with stone buildings. Shops with awnings form the ground floors of the buildings and there are cars and a lorry on the road. An ornate canopied drinking fountain stands in the middle of the square flanked by ornate street lights from which iron railings sweep round the top of the square's retaining walls. Trees and seats fill the apex of the square. James Square, in the foreground was artificially levelled and in 1894 a fountain was built in the centre. The town hall, on the right past the square, was built in 1842 and still displays the town jougs or stocks and the Drummond Cross.
