Scope and Content A town hall with an ornate clock tower in a square lined with shops, the Queensberry Arms Hotel, and stone built houses; there are several motor cars and a lorry on the cobbled road. The war memorial is in the right foreground. Annan is a royal and municipal burgh, once a seaport and market town. Local industries included cotton and wool manufacture, a tannery, distillery, saw mills, fishing and quarrying. The Town Hall was rebuilt in the late 19th century in Scottish baronial style, serving as the council chambers, municipal offices, and courthouse.
