Scope and Content A ruined tower house, much overgrown, sited on a clifftop above a rocky seashore. Gylen Castle is on the island of Kerrera. Gylen was a 12th century stronghold of the Macdougall Lords of Lorn. A clasp, the Brooch of Lorn, said to have been taken from the cloak of King Robert I at Dalry, was captured from the castle when it fell to General Leslie in 1647.
