Scope and Content A view of a ruined tower house on a mound above a cultivated glen. A herd of cattle graze in the foreground field. Steep hills rise beyond. A tent and what appear to be covered waggons, caravans or horse boxes stand beside the tower house. Lochwood Tower is a ruined fortalice or tower house, which from the 14th century was the seat of the Johnstones. The tower was destroyed by the Maxwells in 1593. It was restored but finally abandoned in 1724.
