Scope and Content A substantial mansion house with a turreted keep set in large grounds with topiary and an ornamental urn in the gardens. A hedged garden with statues is visible beyond the house. There is mixed woodland in the background. The keep has corner turrets and a square stair tower. The wing extending from the tower is of 19th century date and has large mullioned windows. There is a broad gravel path beside the house. Kilconquhar House was originally a castle and once the seat of John Bethune, who established his claim to the title of Earl of Lindsay in 1878. The 'L'-plan keep incorporates a later addition.
