Scope and Content A cluster of whitewashed cottages, one thatched, with a picket fence enclosing the side garden. A monkey puzzle tree is seen in the enclosed garden. The two-room cottage is the birthplace of the Scottish lyric poet, Robert Burns (1759-1796). It was built by his father in the mid 18th century. In the 19th century it was used as an alehouse but has since been restored and is now a museum.
