Scope and Content Two people standing beside a tall square tower on top of a hill overlooking a town at the head of a river estuary. Gorse and grass cover the hilltop before the tower. The tower is a slender stone structure with a sloping base and top crowned by a balustrade and a corner stair turret. A group of cannon, on gun carriages, stand beside the base facing towards the town. Sir Hector Archibald MacDonald (1853-1903), known as 'Fighting Mac', son of a Dingwall crofter, rose from the ranks to become a Major-General. This monument was erected soon after his death.
