Scope and Content A substantial building, balustraded and with a covered entrance porch, a balcony above the corner portico and an arcade below the driveway. The arcade appears to house business premises or warehouses. The hotel is sited in St Enoch's Square. It was opened on 3 July 1879. A subway station (not seen here) was opened in the square in 1896. St Enoch (original name, St Thenew) was the mother of St Mungo, who is the patron saint of Glasgow.
