Scope and Content A substantial symmetrical mansion house with steps leading up to the main entrance. A driveway leads past a large neat lawn to an oval gravel area before the house. The house is built in the classical style with pilasters and pediments round the front door. Climbing plants cover the side wings. On the left is an archway leading to a group of associated buildings. Galloway House was built in 1740 and was the seat of the Earls of Galloway; it is noted for its wealth of trees and shrubs. It has since been used as a school.
