Scope and Content A parish church on a mound above a river with a graveyard extending down the side of the hill. Buildings stand on the riverbank below, with pantiled cottages beyond the arched stone bridge over the river. The church has a west tower, nave and side aisle and chancel apse in 15th century Gothic style. Washing is hanging on lines in gardens before the cottages. A path leads along the riverbank past a field with fence and stone dykes. The parish of St Vigean's is one of the oldest in Scotland; the church was first erected in the 12th century and has been repaired several times, finally being restored in 1872 to its present Gothic form. The River Brothock flows below the church.
