Scope and Content A massive sculptured stone arch on a dockside with a coat of arms below the clock, and several masted ships and steam driven vessels moored in the harbour and at the wharves behind the arch. There is a large central archway with two smaller side arches, and a cabbies' shelter to the right. This is the second Royal Arch, erected in 1850 and demolished in 1964 to make way for the new Tay Road Bridge. The first was made of wood and had been erected in 1844 to commemorate a visit to the city of Dundee by Queen Victoria.
