Scope and Content A sailing boat has been rowed through an arch in a coastal cliff. There is a whitewashed lighthouse and outbuildings surrounded by a wall set on top of the cliffs. A calm sea loch lies below the cliffs and low hills form the far shore. A man, possibly to indicate scale, is standing on the top of the cliff above the arch, looking down on the ship. Other men are standing on the lighthouse lantern walkway. The rock strata are clearly visible sloping way from the cliff face. The lighthouse was built in 1858 and designed by the brothers David and Thomas Stevenson. The lighthouse is visible for 16 miles. It was automated in the late 20th century.
