Scope and Content Single-arched humped back bridge spanning narrow stretch of water at head of sea loch. Rough pasture on either bank with a horse and sheep grazing on left bank. Whitewashed garage beside road to right of bridge behind the trees. A hayfield with piles of cut grass is visible beyond the trees on coastal flat at right. Small islands in loch with craggy hills in background. The Clachan bridge, also known as The Atlantic Bridge was built in 1791, and connects the island of Seil with the mainland. It was reportedly designed by Thomas Telford (1757-1834), though recent research suggests otherwise- according to the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, it was designed by John Stevenson.
