Scope and Content The MV Loch Fyne was notable in being the first British Registered Diesel Electric controlled passenger ship. View across hillside and churchyard with Celtic crosses before a Gothic church and cloister ruins, to a loch with steam ship. Hills in the background. Church with row of round head windows above doorway of nave. High transepts and central square tower. Square openings with tracery in the tower. The first religious community was founded by St Columba in 563. The remains of the 16th century cathedral of the Isles were given to the Church of Scotland in 1899 and restored. In 1938 the Iona Cathedral Trust was set up and the buildings given to the Iona Community for the use by all Christians.
