Scope and Content Two spirally carved columns supporting a plaster ceiling before an ornate marble monument depicting a reclining Georgian lady and gentleman. Latin inscription on side of table tomb below figures. Classically styled backdrop of cherubs holding a small scroll inscription below a round arch on pilasters, garlands on either side and armorial shield with motto and bearers above all. Corinthian columns on each side. James Douglas, 2nd Duke of Queensberry (1662-1711) and his duchess (d. 1709). Black and white marble monument designed by John Van Nost (d.1780), an Irish sculptor.
