Houses and shops on the hillside beyond with hills on the horizon. Names of steamers, "Gondolier", " Glengarry", "Ethel", "Cavalier" and "Lochness", passing through the locks are legible on booking office notice board beside cottage with wall clock. The Glengarry was built in 1844 and first called the "Edinburgh Castle". The Caledonian Canal, 60 miles long, connecting natural lochs by 22 miles of canal and locks, was surveyed by James Watt (1736-1819) and built by Thomas Telford (1757-1834).
