Scope and Content A walled garden intersected by paths with tall herbaceous plants in the borders, and four people on the lawn; trees beyond. The small building built into the corner is a summerhouse, added in 1604. A hand pushed lawn mower is beside the flowerbed at centre left. The women and girls are in summer dresses and hats. An early pleasure garden or pleasance; the chequered pattern of flower recesses on the wall represents the Lindsay coat of arms. The walls are also decorated with celestial deities, the seven sciences, and the theological and cardinal virtues.
