Scope and Content A statue of a woman on a plinth in front of a castellated building with arched windows, corner towers and a flagpole. The statue represents Flora MacDonald (1722-1790) the Scottish heroine who helped the Young Pretender (Charles Edward Stuart, 1720-1788) to escape to Skye after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in April 1746. Flora MacDonald was later imprisoned for aiding Prince Charles Edward Stuart. She was sent to London and held for a short time in the Tower, but was later released under the 1747 Act of Indemnity and returned to Skye.
