Scope and Content A ruined castle with a square tower, overlooking a bridge crossing shallow gravel-bedded stream in a wooded gulley with bare trees on both sides. Also known as Fintry Castle, Mains Castle was built in the mid 16th century by Sir David Graham (who was beheaded in 1593). The castle was later acquired by jute industrialist, Sir James Caird, and restored by his sister, Mrs Marryat.
