Scope and Content Loch Leven is a sea loch that runs for approximately 9 miles east to west between Kinlochleven and Ballachulish. The village of Glencoe lies on its southern shore, from where this photo was taken. The burial place of the MacDonald clan of Glencoe lies on an island -Eilean Munde- opposite the village. Kinlochleven, at the head of the loch, was established when an aluminium smelter was built there during the first decade of the twentieth century. It is no longer functioning but the building contains a small Hydro-electric Power Station. A bridge was built across the mouth of the loch at Ballachulish in 1975 to replace the Ballachulish Ferry.
