Scope and Content A wall-mounted flag belonging to the Torre Contrada, one of the quarters of Siena who participate in the annual Palio races. Siena is famous for its parades of the flag throwers who represent the various town quarters or contrade also known as borghi or sestieri. They parade at the Palio races. Often found in other Italian cities, there are competitions between such groups.
