Scope and Content Flamingos in Kowloon Park, Hong Kong. The flamingo is noted for its bright plumage and ability to stand on one leg for long periods of time. Young flamingos hatch with greyish reddish plumage, but adults range from light pink to bright red due to aqueous bacteria and beta carotene obtained from their food supply, which is largely brine shrimp.
